Week of 11/27-12/1 Mid-Week Update (Santa's Workshop, Book Fair, late work, work adjustments)

Just a handful of items to note!

1.  Our class is signed up to attend Santa's Workshop on Tuesday, December 12th.  This event is put on by the OPPO every year and gives students an opportunity to buy gifts for friends and family at affordable prices (for 10-11 year-olds).

2.  A reminder that the book fair is going to be held from December 1st through the 8th (starts tomorrow!).  If your students are interested in purchasing a book or two, encourage them to bring their hard earned allowance sometime in the next week!  There are some great titles this year!

3.  The announcements from earlier in the week mentioned that students will be working on two health lessons (2 & 3) this week, however, I have decided that we will be starting lesson 3 next week.  This means they will only be responsible for turning in lesson 2 this week.

4.  Students will be taking their Weekly ELA Assessments and Spelling Test.  Encourage your students to take 20 minutes tonight to review their SWAG work, anchor text, and grammar/vocabulary concepts to ensure they are ready to go for tomorrow!

5.  All work that was due last Friday must be turned in tomorrow or it will not be graded for credit.

Note to Parents about Late Work and Conferences this Trimester

Note to Students/Parents about Late Work

Last trimester my late work policy was altered significantly.  I noticed that our group needed more time to adjust to our weekly routines and I allowed students to turn in any late work at any time.  This trimester we will be reinstating my original policy, which states that late work will only be accepted one week after the assignment's original due date.  

Late Work vs. Incomplete Work

Late work that is turned in within a week of its original due date will be graded per usual (i.e. students who submit quality and complete work will be given full credit for their effort).  

Any incomplete work (whether turned in late or on time) will continue to be graded per usual with students receiving at the very most 50% (DNM) or an INC (0%; complete for grade).

Note to Students/Parents about Conferences

A tentative date and time for conferences next week are being sent home tomorrow.  This is just an initial schedule.  If this date and time does not work, please indicate this on the form, return it with your student, and I will make sure we schedule something that works best for you!
